WHO COULD USE THIS DATA?
Universities and Researchers
Those on the forefront of treatment, could use the data and hard numbers.
Over time, a veterinary practice and its’ practitioners gain knowledge and insight treating their patients. What is out there, what works and doesn’t work. But much of that is lost at retirement. CICI can retain some of that knowledge.
Queries of CICI data could help with publishing, research, and possibly grants.
Cancer Treatment Developers
Cancer treatment is moving forward with new ideas. But sometimes that is improving current treatments, or developing a new method/rate, or a combination of both. CICI could be helpful focusing by identifying factors such as comorbidities – which will impact success rates. (Ie: Kidney disease, diabetes, heart issues.)
Pet Centered Businesses
Pet insurance companies could find the data useful for actuarial assessments. 1 in 3 American women will get cancer in their lifetime. Men, the odds are higher: 1 in 2. These are stats developed thanks to the NCDB. CICI is a stepping stone to that same sort of information – but for animals.
Vet Clinics and Pet Owners
How often are veterinarians asked: How much longer will my pet live with that treatment? What are the side effects? What will it cost? There is no easy answer. But it would help both the veterinarian and pet owner – if they could refer to information about another pet that already went through (various) treatments. Even compare demographics like age and comorbidities.
